Pluto: Feb. 18 Marks 86th Anniversary of Dwarf Planet's Discovery
Pluto was discovered on Feb. 18, 1930, by Clyde W. Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Ariz. The International Astronomical Union downgraded Pluto to a dwarf planet in 2006.
